The fibrinopurulent phase (4-14 days) is characterized by accelerated fibrin deposit, becomes purulent leading to empyema and loculations and the organizing stage (after 14 days) is characterized by thickened pleura, producing an inelastic membrane "the peel", which restricts lung movement termed as trapped lung.
