He falls in love with a deaf girl (Tammy Blanchard, lovely), gets vamped and forced into marriage by a confusingly written senator's daughter (Angelina Jolie, who's obviously an incompatible match for Damon: she overacts
every scene he just kind of stands there in), is manipulated into betraying an admired professor, and is otherwise groomed for service in the OSS as America draws closer toward World War II.
The comic energy quickly runs out, however, as the cast overacts
and the plot rips off every zombie movie going.
Stone certainly gives her lungs a full workout, Dorff overacts
wildly, the plot has as many holes as the decaying Manor, and apart from a couple of reasonable shocks there are no real thrills to be had.

and is not really needed.
She's played by Tori Spelling, who overacts
wildly, although it's hard to tell in this film whether this is deliberate or not.
Sometimes their barbs connect, like when Lisa's boss at the temp agency tells us how Lisa overacts
when she calls in sick or when Penelope Ann Miller points out how everyone confuses her with Mary Louise Parker and a host of other similar-looking, multinamed actresses.
Lowe, who at times bears a striking resemblance to his subject, doesn't exactly command the screen - the actors playing his grown children look older than he does - and overacts
while lip-synching to Denver's songs.
