In the target network, the testing-trial types were as follows (see Table 2): SAME/B1-[C1-C2-N1]; SAME/B2-[C2-C1-N2]; OPPOSITE/B1-[C2-C1-N1]; OPPOSITE/B2-[C1-C2-N2], Given the relations that were trained, participants were expected to make the following selections: (i) C1 with B1 in the presence of the SAME cue (because both are the same as A1); (ii) C2 with B2 in the presence of SAME (because both are opposite to
A1 and, thus, the same as each other); (iii) C2 with B1 in the presence of OPPOSITE (because B1 is the same as A1 and C2 is opposite to
A1 thus B1 is opposite to
C2); (iv) C1 with B2 in the presence of OPPOSITE (because B2 is the opposite to
A1 and C1 is the same as A1 so therefore B2 and C1 are opposites).
