The guaiac wood and vetiver-laced Mr Burberry has a cool, timeless feel, much like the coat that inspired it in fact.

For a classic reinvention of its venerable Polo scent, Ralph Lauren has taken an Indian oud and blended it with vetiver and guaiac wood.

The fragrance launched last fall, and is inspired by "cocktail time in London in March 1930." It is made with some of the ingredients found in a gin martini--juniper berry oil, Angelica root, lemon peel oil, bitter orange, pepperwood, guaiac wood, oakwood, vanilla absolute and amber.

THIS is a watery, fresh version of the original with notes of herbaceous complex and guaiac wood.

Key notes: coriander leaf, Japanese golden lily, guaiac wood, milky amber.

It has top notes of bourbon pepper, crisp apple, cardamom and black pepper, mid notes of nutmeg, orris and sandalwood, and drynotes of vanilla wood, guaiac wood, vetiver, patchouli and clean musk.

A blend of guaiac wood, cashmere wood and sandalwood lingers in the dry down.
