During inspection of new aircraft for contract compliance verification, discovered up elevator cable-to-elevator bellcrank attach bolt nut (castellated nut) missing its cotter key
. Nut was still present but appeared to have "backed off" 1.0 to 1.5 turns.
After doing so, the striker bolt was reinstalled, but the corresponding washer, bolt, and cotter key
(highlighted in the photos above), which secure the cam assembly to the timer check-valve, were left off in order to reduce the amount of time it would take to remove the striker bolt again if more adjustments were required.
The axle nut cotter key
was removed and the nut taken off.
The two piece, cotter key
style pin had straightened out enough to be removed from the grenade, but was bent apart just enough to not allow the pin to slide back into place.
It has cotter key
lock nuts on the axles holding the wheels on and 53-inch diameter metal wheels.
