Six cases were diagnosed as cardiovascular syphilis
and presented with aortitis and thoracic aneurysm.[sup],,,,, Two patients were diagnosed as gummatous syphilis of the adrenal gland,[sup] and hepatic gummas and syphilitic episcleritis.[sup] Twelve patients were diagnosed as neurosyphilis.[sup],,,,,,,,,, One was diagnosed as tertiary syphilis with bone, adrenal gland, liver, and skin involvement.[sup]
Ascending aortic aneurysm, aortic valve insufficiency.
Just like in secondary syphilis, the patients with tertiary syphilis can get a systemic involvement with neurosyphilis (asymptomatic, meningeal and vascular, parenchymatous with general paralysis, tabes), cardiovascular syphilis
(coronary disease, aortitis, aortic aneurism), ophthalmic involvement (iritis, chorioretinitis, optic atrophy).
The first of these groups consists of patients with evidence of tertiary syphilis--such as cardiovascular syphilis
or late skin manifestations of syphilis.
These categories are divided into gummatous syphilis, also known as late benign syphilis, cardiovascular syphilis
, or late neurosyphilis.
