The grease can carbonize
and reduce electrical insulation.
Induction heaters, which incorporate a coil directly fed from the electricity supply, were installed in the kiln walls for generating heat energy to carbonize
The PTA process can also utilize a solid carbon source, such as carbon black or fullerenes, to carbonize
the substrate surface and eliminate any adverse reactions with hydrogen and the underlying substrate.
When exposed to intense heat or flame, the fibers carbonize
and then expand, dramatically reducing the oxygen content within the fabric.
"The Krytox FG line is chemically inert, biologically inert, nonflammable, insoluble in water, is compatible with plastics and metal, does not carbonize
to create deposits and can be used at temperatures of up to 300 degrees Celsius," says Bruce Ulissi, sales manager with DuPont, Wilmington, Del.
