The
Battle of Issus is a notable omission from the survey.
Phoenician coinage dated the years of Alexander the Great's reign either from the
Battle of Issus or from his subsequent arrival in Sidon shortly thereafter, not from his accession to the Macedonian throne.
He rode Bucephalas both in war (for example, at the
battle of Issus, 333 BC) and when indulging his insatiable passion for hunting wild animals in the rare intervals of rest between campaigning and marching.
