At pH 4 the order of the association constant for compounds is 2CA4MBA > 2BA2C > 2BMCA > 2CMPA > 2CA3MBA.
To verify the proposed mechanism for this facilitated extraction phenomenon of the [VO.sub.2.sup.+] ions by prepared SLMs and determine the microscopic parameters, apparent coefficients [D.sup.*], and association constants [K.sub.ass], we traced the Lineweaver-Burk lines (1/[J.sub.0] = f(1/[C.sub.0])) provided by (16), from the experimental results for the three used SLMs.
In addition, the use of a simplified formula for calculating BT [calculated BT (cBT)] using specific association constants of testosterone for sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and for albumin (3) seems to yield higher calculated than measured BT [assayed BT (aBT)] (4).
An association constant of 130 000 was used in all cases and a variety of monomer molar masses in the range of 500 to 1500 g/mol were assumed for terminators and propagators.
UV--Vis spectra were collected via a Hewlett-Packard 8453 UV--Vis spectrophotometer where solvents were chosen from acetonitrile, dichloromethane, or benzyl chloride, in order to determine the extinction coefficients of the ferrocene derivatives (acetonitrile) or the association constants of the ferrocene derivatives with either dichloromethane or benzyl chloride.
The association constants for 4-HP2OTP-BSA and 2-HP2STP-BSA complexes in presence of foreign particles are 0.7006 ([+ or -]0.0005) & 0.5757 ([+ or -]0.0005) for Hg and 0.6782 ([+ or -]0.0005) & 0.6855 ([+ or -]0.0005) respectively.
In addition, the phase-solubility studies indicated that the solubility of benzoyl metronidazole (S = 0.1435 g/L) was substantially increased 9.7-fold (S' = 1.3881 g/L) by formation of 1:1 benzoyl metronidazole/[beta]-CD complexes in water, and the association constant [K.sub.a] value was determined to be 251([+ or -] 23) [dm.sup.3]/mol.
[sup.1]H NMR titration experiments in 10% [D.sub.2]S[O.sub.4], suggested that the compound exhibited weak binding for chloride and bromide with the association constants of 24 and 23 [M.sup.-1], respectively.
On the other hand, the activity based association constant K can be expressed as (Anderko, 1990):
[5] Nonstandard abbreviations: SHBG, sex hormone binding globulin; bioT, bioavaIIable testosterone; FT, free testosterone; BMI, body mass index; kt, associafion constant for binding of testosterone to SHBG; [k.sub.at], association constant for binding of testosterone to albumin.
On the basis of the hypothesis that [K.sub.a] = 3.6 x [10.sup.4] L/mol was not the exact association constant of testosterone for albumin in serum, our recalculation of the optimal paired [K.sub.s] and [K.sub.a] values for various [K.sub.s] values of 0.6 x [10.sup.9] to 1.9 x [10.sup.9] L/mol showed that the corresponding [K.sub.a] values were 0.60 x [10.sup.4] to 2.29 x [10.sup.4] L/mol (group G1), 0.5 x [10.sup.4] to 1.97 x [10.sup.4] L/mol (group G2), and 0.8 x [10.sup.4] to 3 x [10.sup.4] L/mol (group G3), lower than the [K.sub.a] (3.6 x [10.sup.4] L/mol) applied by Vermeulen et al.
The binding affinity of an antigen to a monoclonal antibody (i.e., the association constant, or [K.sub.a], which is a ratio of two rates, the association and dissociation rates) tends to be uniform, whereas in an immunologic reaction involving polyclonal antibodies (reagent or interfering antibodies), the [K.sub.a] or avidity is a mean value of binding constants of each of the antibody populations.
where P represents the number of bound labeled species and the over-dot represents its time-rate of change; A represents the concentration of labeled binder in solution; B represents the effective concentration of unbound sites on the fiber; [k.sub.on] is the apparent association constant; and [k.sub.off] is the apparent dissociation constant.
