There is a significant difference in the number of problems with others' alcohol use ever experienced by abstentious women and women who drank ([[Chi].sup.2] = 18.8, p = .0435).
When Drinker Type is held constant, the results of the second discriminant analysis indicates that there is a substantive difference between abstentious men and abstentious women in the nature of the problems with others' alcohol use that they have ever encountered ([[Omega].sup.2] = 9.8%, p = .0480).
Men who drink tend to have problems similar to those of abstentious men; in particular, they have been passengers with drivers who have had too much to drink (.37), they have been hit, pushed or assaulted by someone who has been drinking (.32), and they have had their property vandalized by someone who has been drinking (.30).
