Discovery of Zapus
hudsonius in northeastern Oklahoma, with comments on its ecological status.
Predation on a meadow jumping mouse, Zapus
hudsonius, and a house mouse, Mus musculus, by brown trout, Salmo trutta.
Phenacomys intermedius, Zapus
princeps, and Microtus longicaudus were sparsely distributed among the 36 sampling grids (Phenacomys were present in nine grids, Zapus
in four, and Microtus in one only).
In addition to Microtus, we captured Peromyscus maniculatus, Tamias minimus, Zapus
princeps, Urocitellus spp.

and four extralimital extant species: Sorex cinereus, Microtus pennsylvanicus, Synaptomys cooperi and Zapus
hudsonius (Pfau 1994).
We conducted a total of 8013 trap nights and captured individuals from 10 species of small mammal (Blarina brevicauda, Microtus ochrogaster, Microtus pennsylvanicus, Mus musculus, Peromyscus leucopus, Peromyscus maniculatus, Sorex cinereus, Spermophilus tridecemlineatus, Tamias striatus, Zapus
hudsonius) consisting of 762 and 206 captures in NWSG and airfield grassland areas, respectively.
Species taken at Willow Slough and Newport but not at Goose Pond were the masked shrew Sorex cinereus, the western harvest mouse Reithrodontomys megalotis, and the meadow jumping mouse Zapus
hudsonius is a relatively vagile and long-lived rodent (Quimby, 1951).
By order of decreasing abundance, they were Blarina brevicauda (23 individuals), Cryptotis parva (21), Microtus ochrogaster (11), Sorex longirostris (7), Sorex fumeus (5), Zapus
hudsonius (4), Peromyscus leucopus (3), M.
The meadow jumping mouse, Zapus
hudsonius, is a boreal species which ranges from Alaska across Canada to the Atlantic coast southward throughout the eastern United States, west to the central Great Plains (Hall, 1981), with one subspecies restricted to lowland montane habitats in eastern Arizona and central New Mexico (Hafner et al.
hudosonius also were captured at old field and plantation habitats.
We also captured 123 Blarina carolinensis (southern short-tailed shrews), 12 house mice, 10 Microtus pinetorum (pine voles), 5 Oryzomys palustris (rice rats), 4 Microtus ochrogaster (prairie voles) and 1 Zapus
hudsonius (meadow jumping mouse).
