Katerina's resilience, passion and determination has allowed her to develop her voice into the sound required for the heavier roles of the spinto soprano. She has also recorded a new CD with the title Angel of Fire with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Grzegorz Nowak, featuring operatic arias by Verdi, Giordano, Beethoven, Wagner, Cilea and Puccini; Andromache's Farewell by Samuel Barber; as well as two world-premiere pieces by Swiss composer Stephan Hodel, based on Katerina's poetry.

A soubrette's voice usually can sustain many high light notes, whereas a spinto soprano will sing the bulk of her music in the middle and low, leading to a climactic high note toward or at the end of a long phrase.
