Under the optimal S/L ratio and C[O.sub.3.sup.2-]/HC[O.sub.3.sup.-] ratio, four oxidants, which were 30% aqueous [H.sub.2][O.sub.2], NaClO
solution with 5% available chlorine, KMn[O.sub.4], and [K.sub.2][S.sub.2][O.sub.8], were selected to assess the effect of oxidation on the leaching efficiency of uranium from the lignite.
The wheat seeds were placed on Petri dishes with filter paper after soaking in NaClO
(3%) for 5 min.
At the end of each test the solid fraction was washed and depigmented with NaClO
1 (w [V.sup.-1]), once at 40[degrees]C, followed by washing to neutral pH (wash water) and dried at 60[degrees]C for 24 hours.
With regard to cytotoxicity, CHX has been shown to be less toxic to fibroblasts and keratinocytes compared to [H.sub.2][O.sub.2] and NaClO
, and its toxic potency is dependent on length of exposure and medium composition .
Figure 8(a) showed the effect of dosage of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO
) on the removal rates of PAM and COD.
Seeds were first sterilized using 5% NaClO
for 5 min, washed 5 times in sterile [H.sub.2]O, and then grown on 1/2 MS medium [19, 20] for 16 h light/8 h dark at 24[degrees]C.

The elements of the soluble fraction were extracted using KCI (0.005 mol [L.sup.-1]); the elements of the exchangeable fraction were extracted using BaCl2 (0.1 mol [L.sup.-1]), followed by agitation for 1 h; Cu and Zn bound to organic matter were extracted using NaClO
(0.7 mol [L.sup.-1]) and placed in water bath at 90[degrees]C for 15 min, and the process was repeated twice and the extracts were combined; Cu and Zn bound to Al oxides were extracted using NaOH (1.25 mol [L.sup.-1]) and only then placed in water bath at 75[degrees]C for 1 h.
Grains of these genotypes were cleaned from foreign matter and were disinfested with 1% sodium hypochlorite (NaClO
) prior to experiments.

) for 30 minutes and then rinsed with water.
