Intravitreal fluocinolone acetonide (IVFA) is commercially available in two different extended-release drug delivery systems, Retisert (Bausch&Lomb, Rochester, NY, USA) and Iluvien (Alimera Sciences, Atlanta, GA, USA).
The dye remains primarily in choroidal circulation, which allows visualisation of choroidal blood flow that may have otherwise been obscured by subretinal blood and exudation on IVFA imaging.
Adequate access to IVFA is also a similar consideration, although less so, considering the huge benefit of performing non-invasive OCT instead.
