In the Highland Wildlife Park, visitors can see European bison, red deer, Highland cattle and European elk
The two European elk
- related to the Canadian moose - and called Hercules and Hulda, are the latest addition to the 500-acre fenced-off enclosure lying between the Alladale and Carron rivers.
The European elk
could be used to keep our wet places open, and the European bison to manage woodland pastures.
The giant moose, commonly known as European Elk
, is the largest of the deer species and will be imported from Sweden or Austria in a bid to restore the land to the way it was 2,000 years ago.
Cwiakalski pointed out it was common practice to tranquilise European elks
(similar to the North American moose) that have strayed into Warsaw before transporting them back to the Kampinos Forest north-west of the city.
