The aim of this work is to carry out fast and accurate determination of cyanide ion
in biological materials using IC-PAD.
A number of enzymes like catalase, superoxide dismutase, nitrate reductase are inhibited by cyanide, as well as a number of metalloenzymes like alkaline phosphatase, cytosolic Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase [12,14].The cyanide ion
or radical [CN-] is the strong poison and is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract [GIT].
Summary: TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian researchers successfully measured low concentrations of the toxic and harmful cyanide ion
in aqueous environments by using nanotechnology.
Among these, those that can easily release the cyanide ion
([CN.sup.-]) are highly toxic.
Hydrogen cyanide is weakly acidic and partially ionizes in the water solutions to form cyanide ions
. Hydrogen cyanide has a faint, bitter, almond like smell that sometimes is undetected.
These molecules can then bind cyanide ions
through a substitution for the hydroxo ligand linked to the trivalent cobalt ion.
But sometimes free cyanide (cyanide ions
and hydrogen cyanide) breaks down slowly--for example in water that is ice-covered and so protected from direct sun.
