Liquid-based preparations may be particularly valuable for diagnosing squamous cell carcinoma, small cell
undifferentiated carcinoma, and metastatic carcinoma of the lung.

It may merge with foci of overlying CIS or with invasive urothelial carcinoma, small cell
carcinoma or adenocarcinoma.
