Megalopterans are among the most primitive of winged insects in the world (Aspock et al., 2001) and include two families: Corydalidae (dobsonflies and fishflies) and Sialidae (alderflies).
To date, alderflies have been reported only in three of these seven provinces: Austroriparian, Balconian, and Texan.
The following key includes all species of alderflies reported from Texas with terminology from Contreras-Ramos (2006).
