LSBC has developed a broad portfolio of functional genomics technologies applicable to plants of the genus Nicotiana
and certain monocots such as barley, and ornamental and forestry species.
Whilst the family Solanaceae is distributed through both the Old and New World, the genus Nicotiana
is a Nearctic, Neotropical and Australasian genus (Goodspeed 1954), although Merxmfiller & Buttler (1975) have described a species from southwest Africa.
No less than 50 species of botanical genus Nicotiana
have been identified.
The two domesticated species of the genus Nicotiana
are amphidiploids with 2n = 4x = 48.

Among its broad genomic technologies, LSBC offers exclusive use of monocot GENEWARE vectors, gene discoveries for certain dicot crops and exclusive rights to collaborative gene discoveries for use in forestry, ornamentals and turfgrass, the genus Nicotiana
, and all pharmaceutical applications.
