Equality representatives provide advice and support to employees on a range of equalities
issues (gender, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, etc) and negotiate with employers.
For such rights and equalities
to exist in the midst of a world of diverse peoples and things, we must possess the cautious virtue of political tolerance, but we must also go beyond it to cultivate the virtuosity of cultural poesis that allows us to speak of the world as we make it in tongues that are not our own.
The British Chambers of Commerce in association with the Government Equalities
Office has organised a national ministerial road show focusing on small business and equality.
The group will also inform the wider Welsh public sector s understanding of equalities
within its own future budget considerations.
Since developing the Equality Standard, Equality North East has worked with regional and national organisations, in particular the Government Equalities
Office, to identify the key aspects which should be considered when organisations develop standards.
Speakers included Government Equalities
Office head of strategy Alison Pritchard, North East Chamber of Commerce head of policy and research Ross Smith and Equality and Diversity Forum chief executive Amanda Ariss.
