The objective of the present study was to determine the life cycle of the black weevil S.
According to the results obtained, the tuberose black weevil could be catalogued as a "K" strategist, along with the black banana weevil Cosmopolites sordidus, which has a prolonged life span, given that the adults can live more than 1 year and is considered to have "K" strategy, according to Gold & Messiaen (2000).
In the early 1990s, a 5-mm long, solid
black weevil was observed feeding on and occasionally killing amaryllis (Amaryllidaceae) plants in Florida, and it was determined to be an unknown genus and species in the subfamily Baridinae (Thomas 2005).
