Se describen la morfologia de las esporas y las plantas de algunas especies de las familias Lycopodiaceae (30 especies), Schizaeaceae (10 especies), Cyatheaceae (24 especies), Pteridaceae (2 especies), Parkeriaceae (2 especies), existentes en Colombia, y de las cuales se han citado generos y especies morfologicas de esporas fosiles, pertenecientes o posiblemente pertenecientes a ellas.
A la familia Schizaeaceae se le asignan bastantes generos de esporas fosiles, muy interesantes desde el punto de vista cronoestratigrafico.

Kaulfuss (1827) coloco los cuatro generos en la familia Schizaeaceae y posteriormente Reed (1948) elevo cada genero a familia.
