Palestinian officials deny Israeli claims that Force-17
is Arafat's special security force.
The troops hit at least 7 targets, including the Gaza City's police HQ, two posts of Force-17
and the PA Police Academy.
The spokesman did not identify the targets, but witnesses said at least a dozen missiles hit a compound in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, used by Palestinian police, intelligence and the Force-17
The Israeli army said its tanks destroyed two empty warehouses and one building belonging to the Force-17
security unit near the Jewish settlement of Netzarim in Gaza.
The army said it had hit the Ramallah headquarters of Palestinian president Yasser Arafat's Force-17
security group, which it says has been behind a number of bomb attacks during six months of a Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation.
He accused Arafat's own Force-17
presidential guard and Arafat's Fatah wing of the PLO of fomenting violence and said Mr Arafat was responsible for the Palestinian media broadcasts that incited others to act against Israel.
